iPad 2 Basics...Very Basic Beginning

I received a comment during from Perri wondering how the iPad is working for me. Um, I hope you're okay with me sharing your name Perri, sorry. It was an excellent comment.

I usually do research before buying anything over $50. I did a bit of research (er, um, scouring the app store) before buying the iPad.

Anyway, I figured for Apple product novices, like myself, a few posts might come in handy. Please note: NOVICE. Meaning, I may not be able to shed the best light and may be of no help. In other words, these would be great ideas for questions to ask the sales people.

Let's start with the very basic. You need to download iTunes. Once it's on your computer, it's pretty easy to wander around and find things. I do love when I connect the iPad everything just syncs. I don't have to babysit. With the exception of when there is a new software update for the iPad. That took a bit of finagling to figure out.

When you plug in, your computer pops up iTunes and the computer screen tells you it's syncing (at the very top of the iTunes page). When there is a software update it wants you sync everything before updating. I've done two things, here. The first time, I declined to download and update at that time, then synced everything. Because I didn't know what I was doing, I unplugged the connection closed out iTunes, and then replugged and when iTunes opened, downloaded and installed the update.

The other time, I clicked to download the update only. The iPad downloaded the update and then synced everything. Leaving the iPad plugged in, I went to my account, signed in, and low and behold after reading everything, I found the spot to update. Much easier.

Yes, this is very basic and not answering Perri's comment. Perri you gave me the idea to start posting a bit on the iPad. I will get your comment answered in a future post, but for now, the more I learn, the more it's working for me. At first, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the free apps and spiffy games...ahem..Plants vs. Zombies (not free, but we all enjoy it), that I didn't know how to make it work for me.

Now I'm learning and I've decided losing my iPad would be akin to losing half my brain. I never had a smartphone, so this is really amazing to me. For those who have a smartphone, you're probably rolling your eyes at my excitement. I have everything in that iPad: Contacts, to-dos, notes, everything. Now I just need to learn the Cloud.

For the next few Mondays, I will be posting on basic iPad 2 stuff, like apps and the few things I'm still stuck on.

If you have an iPad or SmartPhone, what is the one feature or app, that you couldn't do without?
